Logan Square Family Shoot

” You belong somewhere you feel free.” Tom Petty

This is one of my favorite shoots ever. It may not seem like much—it wasn’t an exotic location, and there wasn’t a huge budget for over-the-top setups—just an adorable family of four who were about to leave Chicago and wanted to document their favorite spots in the city before moving away. As a Chicago Photographer and a Film Family Photographer, this session was a perfect blend of joy, nostalgia, and pure love. I loved that they chose me to capture these special moments where I could hang back a little and document the everyday beauty as it unfolded.

We kicked off our day at their local park, a favorite spot where the parents often took their two little girls to play. The girls explored with their parents, showing off their favorite areas, playing and jumping around, and cuddling with their parents. The genuine smiles and laughter were absolutely infectious, making my job as a Documentary Photographer an absolute joy.

Next, we headed to one of their favorite restaurants and a beloved pie shop for a fun treat. (The Spinning J Bakery and Soda Fountain is a must-stop if you are in the area; it’s so cute and delicious!) The girls danced around, shared shakes, and enjoyed pies with their parents. These simple moments make my heart so happy. It’s the little things that sometimes get forgotten, and I’m glad I was there to document these moments for them.

After the shoot, I printed all the images (I love tangible prints/albums, all that good stuff!) and met them at their home for a special viewing session. One of their sweet grandmothers was there, and as the slideshow played to one of their favorite songs, there wasn’t a dry eye in the room (including me!). Seeing their emotional reactions pulled at my heart and reminded me once again why I love being a Chicago Film Photographer—it’s all about creating lasting memories that tug at the heartstrings.

Working with families, especially when documenting such meaningful moments, is incredibly fulfilling. Whether you’re looking for a Film Family Photographer or a Documentary Photographer, I’m here to capture your unique story in the most heartfelt and genuine way possible.

If you’re ready to document your own family’s journey, let’s chat and create something beautiful together!
